Gates'- Henry's Get Navarre- CGC TT VA (2001-2005)

Gates'-Henry's Get Navarre-- Romy was three years old when this photograph was taken just after the GPCA National Specialty in Portland, Oregon (2004). Romy was a wonderful dog with an extremely calm and mellow temperament. Romy stood approximately 27.5" at the withers and weighed 105lbs. He is a snow-white Great Pyrenees with a nice head, good movement, and a wonderful --and proper-- coat.

Romy died of bone cancer when he was only 4 years old. He will be missed tremendously by our entire family. In his memory, we would like to share a tribute to his life (download the file).

Gates': The breeder or kennel name. In this case, Romy is from Gates Kennels.

Henry: Romy's father (sire) is American Champion Marwell's Chantrelle O'Henry (Henry is his call name). In 2002 Henry was the 5th highest ranked Great Pyrenees in the United States. We are very proud of Henry and consider ourselves some of his greatest fans! Henry was a magnificent animal and the first Great Pyrenees we met "in person". It was Henry that made us fall in love with the breed and he will always be remembered for that. I clearly recall the day we first met Henry and how impressed I was --not only with his awesome appearance-- but by his calm nature. Below is a photo of Henry and Debbie Gates.

Get: According to Webster, "the offspring or progeny of the father". Therefore, Romy is "Henry's Get".

Navarre: In 1985 a movie was released called "Ladyhawke". It was a medievel story dealing with two lovers who had been cursed by the evil Arch Bishop of Aguilla. By day, the brave Captain of the Guard Navarre was a man. But by night, he became a fierce black wolf. His lover, Isabeau was human only by night while by day she was a hawk. The only chance for the lovers to see one another was during the brief moments of dusk and dawn...that is until... Well, perhaps you should see the movie.
"Ladyhawke" was set in the Pyrenees Mountains of France. It was the first movie Soo and I saw together when we were dating. We both enjoyed the movie and later decided to borrow the name of the brave Captain of the Guard as part of our dog's name.

CGC: Canine Good Citizen. Romy passed his CGC test on his first try and was awarded this title by AKC. We highly recommend socializing and training all dogs and this program is very good.

TT: Temperament Test. Romy passed his TT test in 2003 and was awarded this title by ATTS. Temperament is extremely important in the Great Pyrenees. Romy has, time and again, demonstrated a fantastic temperament.

VA: Versatility Ambassador. Romy was awarded this title by GPCA in 2004. He earned his VA based on his previous CGC certificate, carting/draft dog experience, and hiking in the mountains of Idaho with me.

Significant relations is a method to estimate the distribution and influence of various genetic lines in a dog. This knowledge can be important to future breeding decisions.
