YOUR DOGS FIRST CARTING SESSION
This is the moment you have been waiting for. If you have followed this class and worked on the exercises each week I think both you and your dog are ready. I am not going to describe how to build your own cart as that is covered in the classroom. Don't forget, you can also buy a cart and for some, this may be the only option. I will however, talk a little bit about the characteristics of a good cart. A good cart should not be heavy, though it must be built well. It should have good tires that spin/roll freely and do not wobble. To do this you need a good axle and ball bearings. The body of the cart should be able to carry something as that is the tradition of carting. If this is a competition cart, then the body should be able to carry the weights necessary for the freight haul part of a test. Perhaps the most important consideration regarding the construction of the cart is the positioning of the single tree post and the manner in which the shaft poles connect to the cart. Let's look at each in turn. |
