CARTING EQUIPMENT
There are three basic pieces of equipment involved in canine carting (draft dog events). They are the cart, the harness, and
that which connects these two together, the shaft poles and single tree.
In this section we will learn about each piece beginning with the harness. THE HARNESS
We start with the harness as it is the first piece of equipment you will need to begin training your dog to cart. In fact, you can accomplish
of great deal of training without a cart at all and in this class, we do not introduce a cart until the fourth week.
The harness that we use for carting is called a siwash-carting harness and excellent harnesses are available from Nordkyn Outfitters. Study the illustration below to acquaint yourself with the structure and terminology of a siwash-carting harness.
